II grew up in Oklahoma and Missouri. I spent the warm summer nights with my brother and parents at our open-air cinema. We sat on the bonnet of our car and watched films. It was these moments which fascinated me and probably caused me to opt for this career.
… his favourite film:
I love ‘Saturday Night Fever’. The film was an 18 certificate and I was only 16 the first time I saw it. I sneaked in secretly. The film introduced me to a completely new culture which I didn’t understand at first. The film still has a special place in my heart today.
… his first luxury purchase:
I bought a hand-made chair and imitation Frank Lloyd Wright floor lamp.
… his versatility:
When I was at school, I tried out every sport – apart from baseball (laughs). I played football, was in the wrestling team and for one year, was in the diving team. I also played tennis and basketball – I could do a bit of everything.
… his chances of winn-ing an Oscar:
Oh I don’t let myself feel pressurised by that. When it’s time, it’s time. I don’t do my job to win awards – I want to have fun. Of course it’s great to be recognised with an Oscar but I’m not stuck on that.
… his favourite leisure activity:
I ride a motorbike whenever I have time. As soon as I put on the helmet, I am virtually invisible. Nobody recognises me. People just see me as the guy on the motorbike.
„I ride a motorbike whenever I have time.“
